Essay for Speak

Adolescence: a stage in every person's life, a stage in which making mistakes and learning from them is just a step to getting closer to maturity. A step to getting closer to knowing the real world that is awaiting you. However what happens when a foolish mistake is made and before you know it you are put in a situation in which now your sanity is put into line? The book "Speak" by Laurie Halse Anderson is such an emotional and touching story; narrating the days of a girl whose life was torn due to a horrible action but still explaining the roots to why it is important to think over what you do very carefully, otherwise the consequences could take the course of your life for the worst.

Now a days when a parent thinks about his/her child growing up what worries them the most is the teenage hood. It is not to blame, because this is the age in which future adults will be able to make mistakes but still over come them and get a lesson from such. When I was done reading the book the only thing that I was sure of was that there was nothing wrong by the fact that she went to the party. However the stupid error that she did was start drinking, beer after another. If she would of thought about the consequences before doing this she could have prevented herself all that misery that she experienced in her freshman year.

Even though Melinda had made a horrible mistake, many talented and achieved people have fallen under this trap as well. People such as Lindsay Lohan a very talented and gifted girl but whose actions made her talent fade, giving an image of irresponsibility to the public eye. It is very sad to see this because it is a fact that she could have gone so far and obtained so many things but all of this is now just a dream. However if she puts her act together and embraces this error, putting it behind her she will be able to take control of her life once again.

Being free and in control may seem the perfect thing for everyone, and it is. However by having all this freedom that is now given to you what makes all of this ideal is to be able to be in control in almost every circumstance. To have this you must always, think about the action and the outcomes of your deeds otherwise, like Melinda your world may turn upside down.
